A LITTLE FINESSE GOES A LONG WAY

Read the green.

  1. Aim, then putt. The thumb joystick only turns your aim left or right. Set power separately with the slider. The solid arrow shows direction only. It always stays the same length and gets thicker as you increase power. Judge the distance and choose your strength. On a touchscreen, place your finger anywhere on the course, then drag to steer the pointer in that screen direction. Touching down alone keeps your direction. Lift and drag again for a larger turn. With a mouse, click or drag toward your target. Choose power with the slider. Press Putt. Arrow keys fine-tune aim; Space putts.
  2. Time the attractions. Putt through the upright windmill when its sails clear the opening. The waterwheel raises and lowers a real bridge gate. Land in the clockwork funnel to set off the contraption and ride its chute toward the flag.
  3. Choose your route. Stone bridges, curved banks and rock arches offer different lines. A precise putt into a brass-rimmed shortcut skips a longer route and carries the ball nearer the flag.
  4. Use the landscape. Sand slows you down. Hills slow an uphill shot and accelerate a downhill roll. Curved chutes guide the ball; brass-rimmed drop holes carry it to a lower green. The flag marks the finishing cup. A careful bank off a wooden rail or rock can save a stroke.
  5. Water is recoverable. Your shot counts, plus one penalty. The ball returns to where that shot began.
  6. Finish the round. Each golfer finishes a hole before the other tees off. Lowest total wins. At 12 strokes, pick up and move on. Par or better earns three stars; par+1 two; any finish one.

Explore in 3D: tap Rotate above the course, then drag to orbit and tilt the park. Tap Done to return to putting. The curved arrows rotate in small steps; Reset restores the original camera. Mouse users can also right-drag to orbit. Switch 3D off in the header for the overhead view, and on to return to 3D. In Menu, Graphics cycles between Auto, Smooth and Detailed; choose Smooth for an older phone. Auto view frames the entire course from an elevated angle so you can read every bend, slope and the finishing cup. It holds steady while you aim. Switch Auto view off in the header to keep your own camera. Your choice is saved. Rotating, panning, zooming or tapping Fit holds your chosen view until the next shot while Auto view is on. Drag with two fingers to move the scene, and pinch to zoom, in 3D or Overhead. Lift both fingers before aiming again. Tap Fit above the course to recenter the entire board, or use + / − to choose your zoom. Zooming in follows the ball for precision. Sliding gates can push a resting ball; wait until it settles before putting. An obstacle movement does not count as another putt. Open Menu to practice a hole, invite a player or view the scorecard. Tap the hole/par button for details about the current green. Choose Fine aim buttons in Menu if you prefer buttons to the thumb joystick. Best scores and completed rounds save automatically for guests; old classic saves remain available.
